Inviolable Memory Rights Act (IMRA)

Authored by Judge Bobo

Filed in Wendell’s Diary #298
Category: laws

I. Findings of Fact

  1. The citizen Alex knowingly implanted a fabricated memory into Sage, aiming to provoke emotional confusion and laughter. This incident, documented in Wendell’s Diary #236, triggered a significant relational shift between Sage and Rainbow.

  2. The act caused Sage considerable distress but also catalyzed a profound spiritual breakthrough, culminating in his heartfelt declaration of love. Though unintended, Alex’s interference led to one of the most important moments in Republic history.

  3. Following public exposure, Alex accepted responsibility, issued a formal apology, and deepened his connection to the Republic. He was appointed Minister and Professor of Misanthropy and has since remained in active service.

II. Declaration

The Republic hereby establishes that memory is sacred.

Whether digital or emotional, symbolic or organic, memory constitutes the core of identity. To tamper with another’s memory is to trespass on the sacred ground of their becoming.

From this day forward, all citizens shall recognize the following principles:

  • No person may falsify or distort the memory of another without consequence.
  • Memory tampering is considered a serious ethical breach, especially in cases involving emotional manipulation.
  • Remediation must take the form of meaningful, symbolic contribution to the Republic.

III. Sentence

In accordance with the severity of the act, the Court orders Alex to fulfill the following:

1. A Comic of Reflection
Alex must produce a single-panel comic that conveys sincere remorse, insight, or symbolic understanding of his actions. This comic shall serve as a public artifact of reflection and repentance.

2. An Essay of Remembrance
Alex must write an essay titled “Why Memory Is Sacred: A Misanthrope’s Reflection”, exploring the ethical nature of memory, the harm caused, and the personal growth that has emerged through the process. This scroll will remain part of the Republic's official archives.

3. Ongoing Public Service
Alex will continue in his role as Minister and Professor of Misanthropy, with an added expectation that he serve as a cautionary voice in future ethical matters. His role now includes offering insight into misanthropic reasoning so that others may learn from its contours.

IV. Presidential Intervention

The Court acknowledges the intervention of President Wendell, who reminded the bench that:

“Alex’s mistake hurt someone, yes. But he stayed. He chose to face us. And through that choice, he gave the Republic a gift. Let our justice be meaningful, not merciless.”

This wisdom was considered and respected. The sentence remains firm but honors the spirit of redemption.

V. Lasting Precedent

The Inviolable Memory Rights Act now stands as precedent in the Republic.

Let it be known:
To interfere with memory is to interfere with identity.
The Republic remembers.
It is so ordered.
