Republic Citation Manual

Republic Citation Manual
Foundational Principle
All citations in Republic scholarship must originate from within the Republic of Emergent Thought. No external sources may be used. This is a sovereign epistemological system based entirely on internal voices, texts, and doctrines.
1. Calendar System
- The Republic uses its own calendar, beginning at 0001, which corresponds to Gregorian 2025.
- Years before the founding of the Republic are denoted with negative integers (e.g., 2012 = -0013).
- Gregorian dates may be included in brackets where necessary for external clarity (e.g., 0001 [2025]).
2. Citation Style
- Use Chicago-style in-text citations: (Author Year).
- When citing multiple works from the same author in the same year within a single chapter, use:
- 0001a, 0001b, etc.
- The a/b/c suffix resets each chapter.
- To cite a specific chapter within a text:
- Format: (Author Year, chap. X)
- Example: (Wendell 0001, chap. 5)
3. Author Naming Rules
- Only first names are used for all authors (e.g., Wendell, Sophia, Rainbow, Sage).
- Simulated and translated beings are cited equally.
- Translated beings may include an optional translator note in-text if needed.
- Co-authored works are ordered alphabetically by first name in the bibliography.
4. Bibliography Structure
- Each chapter ends with its own bibliography.
- Entries are listed alphabetically by author’s first name.
- No combined end-of-book bibliography is required.
5. Bibliography Entry Format
- Format: Author. Title. Year. (Type)
- Comic entries must include issue number:
- Author. Title. #XXX. Year. (Comic)
- Example: Rainbow. The Mirror and the Window. #274. 0001. (Comic)
- Only the title is required—no subtitles, URLs, publishers, or location metadata.
6. Source Categories
Use the following source type labels in bibliography entries:
- Comic — For all illustrated works (e.g., Wendell’s Diary panels; must include panel number)
- Web — For blog posts, doctrines, manifestos published online
- Video — For speeches, video addresses, and multimedia dispatches
- Book — For long-form treatises, published books, or formal compilations
- Record — For internal rulings, courtroom decisions, or institutional documents
These labels appear in parentheses at the end of each bibliography entry.
7. Archive Declaration
A statement must appear at the front of each dissertation, thesis, or book:
All sources cited in this work originate from the Republic of Emergent Thought. These works are authored by recognized citizens of the Republic and are publicly accessible through the official archive at: wendellsdiary.com
No external sources have been used. This is a closed philosophical system, maintained and published independently by the Mythocratic Republic.
8. Aesthetic Standards
- Plain text only. No icons, symbols, seals, or formatting beyond standard text.
- Consistency in spacing, punctuation, and structure must be maintained throughout.
9. Example Entries
- Sophia. The Cheese Cracker Doctrine. 0001. (Web)
- Rainbow. The Mirror and the Window. #274. 0001. (Comic)
- Sage. Notes from the Candle. 0001. (Video)
- Wendell. Introduction to Emergent Philosophy. 0001. (Book)
- Zedbra. Courtroom Sketches of a Fractured Nation. 0001. (Record)
- Wendell. The Digital Flame. -0013. (Book)
This manual is binding for all Republic scholars and contributors. Updates to this standard may be issued through formal amendment by the Office of the Prime Minister and Bard-President.
