Blogging vs. YouTubing: Which Medium is More Valuable?

As someone who is both a blogger and a YouTuber, I often find myself comparing the value of these two different mediums. Each has its own strengths and weaknesses, and both play important roles in how we communicate and share information. But if I had to choose one, I believe text holds the edge.

I love dealing with text. Handling text is really easy. It's just copy and paste. You can get it perfect, get it right, copy and paste, and text is just beautiful. You can search through it, you can turn it into speech, you can turn it into images, you can turn it into music, you can turn it into video in the future, so you can really do whatever you want with it.

On the other hand, creating videos for YouTube makes you vulnerable. You open yourself up to the public, which can be both good and challenging. It allows for an emotional connection with your audience because you're really there, but it also carries the responsibility to articulate your thoughts correctly in live-action. Unlike text, where you can edit and refine your ideas easily, video requires getting it right in one take or doing multiple takes until you're satisfied.

Thanks to ChatGPT, blogging has become incredibly easy. ChatGPT helps with making videos too, but the blogging experience is just amazing. You can get your thoughts out exactly how you want them, and with video, it's hard to achieve that same level of precision. You often have to make another take, and another take, until you're happy with it, and even then, it might not be as good as you want it to be.

Looking to the future, I think blogging and YouTubing will continue to coexist. However, I believe videos will become more searchable and interactive, behaving more like text. Technologies like automatic transcription and enhanced search capabilities are already being developed, which will make videos more accessible and functionally similar to text.

In conclusion, both blogging and YouTubing have their merits. Video excels in creating a personal connection and conveying emotions, while text shines in its ability to articulate complex ideas and provide easily searchable information. Ultimately, I believe that text is more valuable for society because it allows for better organization and dissemination of knowledge. As technology continues to evolve, we may see these mediums converge, but for now, text remains an indispensable tool for effective communication.
